It does not include warrants, traffic records, juvenile material, federal or tribal cases, other states, suppressed or set-aside records, and many local minor misdemeanors.
A fingerprint review is the stronger way to inspect your own Michigan record. Active-investigation details, juvenile and confidential material, protected identifiers, victim-sensitive facts, sealed cases, and set-aside records may be withheld or redacted. A public portal shows only the portion its governing law and system allow.
St. Joseph County Criminal Record Requests
The St. Joseph County sheriff is the fallback custodian for releasable sheriff-created arrest, booking, jail, and warrant-related material that is not online. Its form asks for the request date, requester and delivery details, address, phone, driver’s license number, date of birth, a specific description, delivery by pickup or mail, and a signature. Fax requests may go to 269-467-6201. The form notes an initial response period of up to five working days or a lawful extension.
The broader St. Joseph County process accepts written or verbal requests in person, by mail, fax, or email. Its form also offers inspection, certified copies, email delivery, and county-supplied digital media when feasible. A request must describe an existing record; the county does not have to create a new report or answer a question. Standard action is due within five business days, with one ten-business-day extension available.
Posted county fees cap letter or legal copies at $0.10 per sheet. Labor is charged in 15-minute blocks rounded down, with no labor fee below 15 minutes. Estimates above $50 may trigger a deposit of up to half. Eligible indigent requesters and qualifying nonprofits may receive the policy’s first-$20 discount. Court clerk copy prices were not published and must be confirmed separately.

Sealed, Expunged & Restricted
Michigan formally calls conviction relief a set aside, though expungement is also used. Relief suppresses an eligible conviction from ordinary public dissemination. MSP still retains a nonpublic arrest, fingerprint, conviction, and sentence record for uses authorized by law. ICHAT also leaves out juvenile records, warrants, traffic matters, suppressed records, federal and tribal cases, and out-of-state information.
Application waiting periods generally run from sentence or completion of imprisonment, probation, or parole, whichever comes later. The periods are seven years for more than one felony, five years for one felony or qualifying serious categories, and three years for other misdemeanors. Detailed offense exclusions and lifetime limits still apply. An applicant files in each convicting court, obtains the court record and fingerprints, completes MC 227, and sends the required packet with the $50 MSP processing payment.
Clean Slate automatic set aside began April 11, 2023. That same access milestone narrowed online 45th Circuit criminal viewing to 2017 forward. Pre-2017 accuracy needs manual clerk review, and the public criminal terminal is currently unavailable. A blank old-case search is not proof of a clear St. Joseph County criminal history.
OTIS and St. Joseph County Custody
The MDOC Offender Tracking Information System is useful only after a case reaches qualifying state custody or supervision. Search results may cover a current state prisoner, parolee, felony probationer, or a person discharged within the past three years. OTIS is not a full criminal record, does not show all supervision files, and omits people held only in local custody.

Federal custody requires the Bureau of Prisons locator. Its number search uses a specific identifier, while its name route accepts first and last name plus optional details. The official BOP Inmate Locator shows the separate federal search layer.
A “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” result does not rule out local custody, state custody, or supervised release.
Criminal Records by City in St. Joseph County
Sturgis, Three Rivers, and Constantine police create their own incident and arrest reports, but none has a city jail or municipal court. Arrested people are booked at the St. Joseph County jail in Centreville. Misdemeanors and felony preliminary matters go to 3B District Court, while a bound-over felony goes to 45th Circuit. 2,118 residents in 2020. Village police records require a specific written request and a call about delivery and fees.
St. Joseph County Criminal Record Statistics
Crime statistics answer a different question from an individual St. Joseph County criminal history search. The county’s official 2024 MSP audit reported a population of 61,078, 1,298 road miles, and more than 592 million vehicle miles traveled. It counted 132 alcohol or drug driving arrests and 105 resident convictions. Those figures do not establish that the convictions came from the same people or the same year’s arrests.

St. Joseph County Community Corrections Records
Community Corrections adds a local layer between a court case and custody. The office at the Courts Building coordinates pretrial supervision and electronic monitoring. Its programs include cognitive behavioral work, Victim Impact Panels, Economic Crimes Education, Alcoholics Anonymous, Celebrate Recovery, and other services aimed at court appearance and fewer new charges. These program records do not replace the public court file. The 3B or 45th Circuit record remains the source for the order, hearing, violation filing, outcome, and sentence. Adult felony probation is administered by MDOC Field Operations, while misdemeanor probation follows the sentencing District Court function. St. Joseph County criminal records reach much farther back than online systems. The Circuit clerk’s holdings date to the 1830s. That archive, combined with the current pre-2017 online limit, makes the clerk’s manual search an essential final channel for older felony history.
